I may be incorrect but I don’t agree that Alternate Flow(Paths) Tests = Negative testing. In my experience, alternate flow tests are when you have a backup site or a backup comm path while negative testing is trying a positive test in the negative (ex. I can login with my username and password [pos] vs I login with a invalid username and password [neg]).

You have done an amazing job I must say I am very impressed by your work after a long time a found a worth reading blog thank you so much for sharing it 🙂 and yeah functional tests are described and performed when the units of the application are considered complete. If parts of the application are changed after the trial began, the test is usually considered valid and must be repeated.

White box testing relaxes this demand, in that the tests are known to be affected by the change of code can be considered as still valid.

Alisha

Just like other methods in software development, there is no perfect one. Automated software testing requires a higher skill level of team members, increase tooling needs and requires more initial developer time and I think these are some of the disadvantages of automated software testing.

However, I would call attention to one thing, which you might want to note/clarify/comment upon:

1) “Examples of black box testing are: Functional testing,…”

followed by:

2) “Functional testing Types: …. Unit Testing: …”

and then in the table below…

3) “It [unit testing] is a white box testing technique”

You should perhaps expend a little commentary on this visible but (I’m pretty sure) logical apparent discrepancy. From my own experience I’m pretty sure what is going on, but others may not Get It and be confused.

After you go on saying that unit testing is a type of functional testing but it is actually white box testing?

Also, you say unit and integration testing are types of functional testing and yet you compare these 3 as if they were 3 types of different testings?

I had to stop reading the article, it’s so, so confusing.
